State Representative Rosenthal has outlined his efforts to support senior citizens in Illinois. He emphasized his commitment to opposing the taxation of retirement income, advocating for property tax relief for seniors and veterans, and expanding the Meals on Wheels program to help seniors remain in their homes.
Rosenthal has sponsored several bills aimed at reducing property taxes for seniors and veterans. House Bill 1274 focuses on lowering property taxes, while House Bill 3538 provides homestead exemptions for veterans with disabilities. Additionally, House Bill 4716 ensures that the general assessment year will not exceed a certain percentage based on either the assessed value of the previous year or changes in the Consumer Price Index.
He also voted in favor of Senate Bill 3476, which extends benefits under the Meals on Wheels program by exempting home-delivered meals provided to Medicare or Medicaid recipients from taxation.
To protect retirement income, Rosenthal co-sponsored House Resolution 24, which seeks to prevent any amendments to the Illinois Income Tax Act that would allow taxing retirement income.
In an effort to combat financial exploitation of seniors aged 70 or older, Rosenthal supported House Bill 2100. This bill makes it a Class 1 felony if an elderly person is financially exploited and the value involved is $15,000 or more.
Rosenthal encourages constituents to sign a petition urging politicians in Springfield to provide lasting tax relief for senior citizens in Illinois.
