Representative Coffey announced the opening of a new medical facility in January through a Facebook post. He said, "As many as 70% of patients who seek care in the emergency rooms of Springfield Memorial Hospital or HSHS St. John's Hospital could be served quicker, and at less cost, by a new outpatient facility."
"As many as 70% of patients who seek care in the emergency rooms of Springfield Memorial Hospital or HSHS St. John's Hospital could be served quicker, and at less cost, by a new outpatient facility scheduled to open in early January," said Mike Coffey, State Representative, according to Facebook.
According to Coffey's Facebook post, he shared a link to an Illinois Times article that introduced the new outpatient facility from Springfield Clinic. The facility, named Springfield Clinic’s Urgent Care Plus, will operate from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., seven days a week, and will be located at 350 W. Carpenter Street in Springfield. The Illinois Times article dated December 5 mentioned that board-certified emergency medicine doctors would be available to administer intravenous fluids and medications, provide care for urgent care patients, and set broken bones.

Springfield Clinic has said that Urgent Care Plus aims to bridge the gap between urgent care and an emergency room by handling cases that standard urgent care facilities may find too complex but do not require emergency room attention. Patients visiting Urgent Care Plus can expect to see Kristen Ferguson, MD; DJ Goldberg, MD; or Janda Stevens, MD—all certified by the American Board of Emergency Medicine in 2007 and 2010.
A typical urgent care facility addresses issues like sprains, colds, and rashes. However, Urgent Care Plus extends its services to include severe acute pain and dehydration while offering on-site services such as blood work, expanded radiology services, and IV treatments.
Springfield Clinic operates 63 locations across the state, including urgent care and specialty clinics.
Coffey was appointed to fill a vacancy in Illinois State House District 95 following Tim Butler's retirement. A lifelong resident of Springfield and business owner, Coffey joined his family's restaurant business Saputo’s in Springfield in 1992 after it was established by his parents in 1948. He later opened Papa Frank’s in Springfield in 2015. Coffey holds a bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of Illinois.
