The Lady Blues faced a narrow defeat against Cornell College, losing 62-61 in a closely contested game at the Small Athletics and Wellness Center. This result brings Illinois College's record to 7-12 overall and 4-6 in Midwest Conference play, while Cornell improves to 11-6 overall and 7-2 in conference play.
The match was marked by intense competition with a total of 22 lead changes. In the final moments, Reagan Wells scored for Cornell with just 11 seconds remaining, securing a one-point lead that their defense managed to maintain until the end.
Despite holding a significant rebounding advantage of 46-34, the Lady Blues struggled with turnovers, conceding 20 points from giveaways. Additionally, they only managed to score 20 points in the paint compared to Cornell's 36.
Jayln Patterson led Illinois College with an impressive performance, scoring 14 points on seven out of eleven shots. Kallie Oestreicher and Anna McKee contributed a combined total of 21 points, with McKee also leading her team with seven rebounds. Raegen Stringer provided six assists and collected five rebounds for IC.
Looking ahead, the Lady Blues will travel back to Iowa for another away game against Grinnell on Saturday, February 1st at 1:00 pm.
