State Representative Joe Sosnowski of Rockford has voiced his concerns regarding the Homeschool Act, House Bill 2827. The bill is currently under review by the House Education Policy Committee.

In a statement, Sosnowski expressed strong opposition to the proposed legislation, stating: “Homeschool students outperform public school students in standardized testing, yet as we speak Illinois Democrats are advancing a bill in committee in an attempt to regulate homeschooling to such an extreme degree that would put families at risk of fines and even imprisonment. Just because public education is controlled by government does not make it better. Protect homeschool freedom!”

The committee passed House Bill 2827 with a vote tally of 8-4, while one member chose to vote "Present."

Representative Sosnowski represents the 69th District, which includes parts of Winnebago, Boone, and McHenry Counties.
