The Illinois College men's tennis team experienced mixed results during their recent matches in Pella, Iowa. Competing at the Central College Tennis Courts, the Blueboys faced off against Central and Wartburg on Saturday.
In the morning session, Central College defeated Illinois College with a score of 5-2. The Dutch secured an early advantage by sweeping all doubles matches, leading to a 1-0 start. Despite this setback, Illinois College managed to win two out of six singles matches. Tejas Zala emerged victorious in the No. 1 position, while Glenn Conway claimed victory in the No. 2 spot.
The afternoon match saw Illinois College recover from their earlier defeat to edge out Wartburg with a narrow 4-3 victory. Wartburg initially took control by winning all three doubles points and establishing an early lead. However, the Blueboys staged a comeback in singles play with wins from Zala (No. 1), Jeff Wernsing (No. 2), Conway (No. 3), and Titus Ashford (No. 5).
Looking ahead, Illinois College is set to continue their road trip with an upcoming match against Quincy on Wednesday at 2:00 p.m.
