The Wash U softball team, ranked 14th, secured a doubleheader win against Illinois College at the Wash U Softball Field. In the first game, the Bears established an early lead, scoring two runs in the first inning and one more in the second to make it 3-0. The Lady Blues' effort to close the gap was highlighted by Ezzy Mauermann's solo home run in the third inning, which was her first collegiate home run.
Mauermann ended the game with two hits. Other IC players who contributed with hits were Raegan Rezba, Shelby Seiler, Delaney Melton, Taylor Henry, and Elysia Hand. The Lady Blues' pitcher, Jordan Closs, threw six innings, allowing three hits and one earned run.
In the second game, the Bears again started strong, scoring two runs in the first. Illinois College put a run on the board in the fifth inning with Rezba's triple that brought Mauermann home. However, Wash U secured their win with another run in the fifth, finishing at 5-1. Brooke Loveall added a double for IC, with singles from Melton and Kendall Cole.
The Lady Blues currently hold a 12-14 record, while Wash U improved to 23-5 with their victories. Illinois College is set to return to Midwest Conference action, facing Beloit on Saturday and Lake Forest on Sunday. Each day's games are scheduled to start at 1:00 p.m.
