State Representative Mike Coffey of Springfield has successfully advanced a bill aimed at improving safety measures in Illinois libraries. House Bill 2747, which amends the Illinois Library System Act, seeks to utilize existing grant funds to enhance security in various libraries across the state.

"Our city is a destination for tourists across the world, and Springfield Public Library should reflect the pride we have in our community," Coffey stated. He added that improving security would ensure both residents and tourists feel secure while visiting libraries with their families.

Having passed unanimously in the House, the bill allows the Secretary of State to allocate necessary funds for the enhancement of security across library systems, which include public libraries, libraries within higher education institutions, and specialized libraries. The bill now awaits consideration by the Senate.

For further information, the public is encouraged to contact Representative Coffey's office at 217-782-0053 or via email at [email protected].

Coffey serves Illinois’ 95th House District, covering parts of Sangamon County, and including areas within the City of Springfield and the Villages of Chatham and Rochester, as well as parts of Macon and Christian Counties.
