Earlier this month, the 182nd Airlift Wing of the Illinois National Guard in Peoria conducted an open house that brought together local mayors and legislators. Attendees of the event, hosted by Wing Commander Col. Rusty Ballard, received a comprehensive briefing on the 182nd's manpower, mission, and operational capabilities.

Col. Ballard, who leads the 182nd Airlift Wing in Peoria, Illinois, outlined his responsibilities during the open house. He manages both traditional and full-time Illinois Air National Guardsmen who are tasked with the operation and maintenance of C-130H3 aircraft. Furthermore, his duties extend to providing special warfare command and control capabilities. He ensures that all units under his command are prepared to carry out state and federal missions as required.

The event included a flight on a C-130 Hercules transport plane where participants had the opportunity to engage with military personnel. Attendees also received updates on the latest communications equipment and had the chance to handle newly developed weapon systems.
