IC achieved a doubleheader sweep against Eureka at Sweitzer Field on Tuesday. IC dominated the first game with a 10-0 victory, followed by a 10-1 win in the second game, which concluded in five innings.
The Lady Blues' record improved to 17-15 overall, while Eureka's fell to 6-16 after the doubleheader.
In the first game, pitcher Jordan Closs delivered an outstanding performance, achieving a one-hit shutout with a school-record of 18 strikeouts. IC initially scored with an RBI single from Elysia Hand and extended their lead with contributions from Cambria Currie and Kayla Serpa. The team capitalized in the third inning, with Hand and Ezzy Mauermann adding RBIs, and Serpa adding two more. In the seventh inning, Raegan Rezba hit a two-run triple, while Serpa completed the game with her fourth RBI. Rezba and Currie both had three hits each.
In the second game, IC's Alyssa Teixeira scored the opening run after crossing home plate on an error by Eureka. After Eureka managed to score in the second inning, IC's offense ignited, scoring nine runs over three innings. Contributions came from Teixeira and Rezba in the third inning, coupled with additional runs resulting from Eureka's errors. The game concluded with three runs in the fifth inning. Avery Fritz pitched the complete game, conceding only two hits with six strikeouts.
The Lady Blues will continue their season in the Midwest Conference, with their next games scheduled in a doubleheader against Monmouth on Friday, beginning at 1:00 p.m.
