State Representative Wayne Rosenthal has expressed concerns following Governor JB Pritzker's signing of the Fiscal Year 2026 budget, which totals $55.2 billion. Rosenthal criticized the budget, stating it does not align with the needs of many Illinois families.

"Governor Pritzker’s decision to sign a $55.2 billion budget today reflects priorities that I believe are out of step with the needs of many Illinois families," said Rosenthal. He highlighted his worries about increased spending and resources allocated to programs for non-citizens.

Rosenthal also pointed out potential challenges for local governments due to increased state spending and stretched reserves. "At the same time, local governments are being put in a difficult position. With state spending up and reserves being stretched, communities may be forced to consider local tax increases just to maintain basic services," he noted.

The representative called for a more balanced approach to budgeting in Illinois. "We need a more balanced approach. One that supports core services, respects taxpayer dollars, and ensures long-term fiscal stability for Illinois," he stated, emphasizing his commitment to advocating for responsible budgeting that aligns with his constituents' values and priorities.
