Kaskaskia College recently celebrated the dedication of the John D. Cavaletto Agricultural Center, formerly known as the Animal Disease Laboratory. The ceremony included a ribbon-cutting event to honor former State Representative John Cavaletto's efforts in acquiring the building for just $1 and restoring it for educational use.

State Representative Charlie Meier highlighted Cavaletto’s determination, stating, “He changed the direction and the way things are going. The other lab that was closed in northern Illinois sits there and is used for a little bit of storage and that’s all. It’s not maintained. Look at the building we have here for the students of Kaskaskia College because of you, John.”

According to Kaskaskia College's press release, Cavaletto played a crucial role in negotiating with both the governor’s office and the Illinois General Assembly to pass legislation allowing Kaskaskia College to purchase the former lab at a symbolic price. This move expanded educational opportunities with a new 48,000 square foot facility serving KC students.

Kaskaskia College President George Evans remarked on Cavaletto's contributions: “John and his wife, Connie Cavaletto, have demonstrated remarkable generosity as steadfast supporters of the college and its foundation, showcasing their unwavering commitment.” He further noted that without Cavaletto's leadership during significant challenges like state budget impasses, "KC would not be in the same position as we are today."
