Village of Divernon Board of Trustees met June 4

Here are the minutes provided by the board:

The special meeting of the Village of Divernon Board of Trustees was held at Village Hall on Wednesday June 4, 2025. Mayor Craig Busch called the meeting to order at 6:00 p.m. reciting the Pledge of Allegiance. Clerk Rod Molnar called roll. Craig Busch “Here,” Chuck Apgar “Here,” Randy Olson “Here,” Dianne Brenning “Here,” Julie Rhodes “Here,” Colton McDannald “Here, and Gail Hedges “Here.” Also in attendance was Attorney Tony Schuering.

There was no public comment.

A motion was made by Hedges and seconded by Rhodes to enter into executive session for the purpose of discussing personnel. The motion carried 6-0.

The Board returned to regular session at 6:47 p.m.

Chief of Police Mike Lavin has resigned effective July 1, 2025.

A motion was made by Hedges to approve Resolution 2025-010.  The resolution is for consideration of appointing a Chief of Police. McDannald seconded. The roll call follows:  Hedges “yes”, McDannald “yes”, Apgar “no”, Olson “yes”, Rhodes “present”, Brenning “present’. The motion failed for lack of majority.

After further discussion it was decided to return to executive session and have Officer Christian Porter attend to answer questions from the Board.

A motion was made by Hedges and seconded by Apgar to return to executive session at 7:03 p.m.

The Board returned to regular session at 7:30 p.m.

Attorney Schuering explained the procedure to allow the resolution to be recalled for another vote.

A motion was made by Brenning and seconded by Rhodes to reconsider Resolution 2025-010. The motion carried 6-0.

A motion was made by Hedges and seconded by Olson to approve Resolution 2025-010, appointing Christian Porter as Chief of Police. The motion passed 5-1. Apgar voting no.

Porter will be sworn in on June 25, 2025 and begin duties the following day.

Busch will be interviewing a candidate for the position of Office Manager on Friday, June 6, 2025. He hopes to have a recommendation to the Board at the next board meeting.
