The Open Space Land Acquisition and Development (OSLAD) program is accepting grant applications until September 30, 2025. The program offers state-financed grants to local government agencies for acquiring or developing land for public parks and open spaces. Representative Rosenthal encouraged eligible applicants to apply by the deadline, stating, “The OSLAD grants help communities improve their parks and nature areas for families to enjoy.”
Grants are available up to $1,725,000 for acquisition projects and up to $600,000 for development or renovation projects. The program supports a range of projects from small neighborhood parks to large community and county parks. It is funded by a portion of the state's Real Estate Transfer Tax.
To be considered for these competitive grants, applicants must take adequate steps to ensure eligibility. All applicants must be pre-qualified through the State of Illinois Grantee Portal. More information on applying can be found on the Open Space Lands Acquisition and Development Grant page on the Illinois government website.
A video walkthrough is also available for those needing assistance with the application process.
