Illinois College senior Myles Kampwerth has been named the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) Men's Golf Player of the Week, according to an announcement from the league on Tuesday.
Kampwerth began the season at the Highland Championships, where he shot a two-under 70 in the opening round and followed with a 73 in the second round. His combined score of 143 is tied for the fourth-lowest 36-hole score in Illinois College program history. He finished 11th overall at the event.
Kampwerth's performance contributed to Illinois College recording a two-round team total of 593, which ranks as the third-lowest 36-hole team score in school history. The Blueboys tied for seventh place in their season opener and had two golfers finish within the top 35 competitors.
He is the first Illinois College men's golfer to receive SLIAC weekly honors this season.
The Blueboys are scheduled to compete next week at the Cougar Fall Classic, which will take place Monday and Tuesday, September 8–9, at Metamora Fields Golf Course. The tournament is set to begin at 9:00 a.m. on Monday.
