A late goal in the second half gave Washington University (WashU) a 2-1 victory over Illinois College in men's soccer on Sunday at England Stadium. The match marked the home opener for the Blueboys.

Both teams kept the first half scoreless as defenses limited scoring opportunities. WashU broke through early in the second half, scoring at the 49:24 mark. Illinois College answered just over five minutes later when Carter Uhlmann converted a penalty kick for his first goal of the season.
The game remained tied until WashU scored again at 79:54 on a breakaway. Despite pressure from Illinois College in the final minutes, WashU maintained its lead and secured the win.
Illinois College was outshot 26-9 during the match. J'aiden Cranwell-Meneses led the Blueboys with three shots. Goalkeeper TJ Esseily played all ninety minutes and made nine saves.
Looking ahead, Illinois College will host Principia on Tuesday at England Stadium for a non-conference game scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m.
