Illinois College Esports teams achieved decisive victories in their latest matches, continuing their strong performance in the NECC Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and MVEC Valorant competitions.
On Tuesday, the Illinois College Super Smash Bros. team secured a 2–0 series win against Illinois State University. The team won Game 1 with a 3–0 score and followed up with a 6–0 result in Game 2. With Illinois State fielding its third team, Illinois College used the opportunity to give freshmen players match experience. Adam Byrd was a key contributor in Game 2, securing seven stocks. The match also marked the debut of Alex Rhoades for Illinois College.
The box score for the Super Smash Bros. match highlighted Adam Byrd with 11 KOs and a K/F ratio of 1.83. Other contributors included Devin Ussery, Alex Rhoades, and Julian Luaders.
In MVEC Valorant play, Illinois College defeated Southwest Baptist University in straight maps, winning 13–3 on Abyss and 13–2 on Bind. The team selected Abyss, which had recently received an update in the latest patch, to gain experience on the new version of the map. The strategy paid off as Illinois College maintained control throughout both games.
Fray Moulton led the Valorant team with a 3.77 KDA, marking the third-highest single-series performance in program history. Dwight Duijneveld and Jonest Eisfelder also had strong showings, combining for 75 kills in the sweep.
The Valorant box score showed Fray Moulton with 44 kills and a KDA of 3.77, while Dwight Duijneveld recorded 41 kills and a KDA of 2.61.
Illinois College’s Smash team will next play Carroll University on Tuesday, October 21 at 7:00 p.m., while the Valorant team is scheduled to face Drury University on Monday, October 20 at 8:00 p.m.
