The Illinois College Valorant team achieved a 2–1 victory over Morningside during Midwest Esports Conference play on Monday. This win places Illinois College in a favorable position for the postseason, with the team likely to secure the No. 3 seed for the upcoming MVEC Playoffs.
The match began with Illinois College winning the first map, Bind, by a score of 13–6, utilizing coordinated strategies and effective site retakes. Morningside responded by narrowly taking Pearl 13–10. In the deciding map, Haven, Illinois College regained momentum and finished with a 13–9 win, aided by disciplined teamwork and key performances in late rounds.
Dwight Duijneveld led the team with a record-breaking performance, registering 75 kills in the series and surpassing his previous program record of 70 kills set in 2024 against Glenville State. Duijneveld also posted a 2.24 KDA, secured 16 first bloods, and achieved an average combat score (ACS) of 468.
Fray Moulton contributed significantly with 58 kills and 16 assists for a KDA of 1.90. Jonest Eisfelder added 46 kills along with important multikills during Haven. Carter Naeve and Ekko "Sekkond" Nguyen provided support through objective play, combining for 20 spike plants and four defuses throughout the match.
Following this result, Illinois College remains third in the MVEC standings as they approach playoff competition.
The Valorant team will next face Drury University on Thursday, October 23rd at 7:00pm in another NECC match.
