Springfield council session discusses police academy use

Illstatepolice

Springfield, Illinois City Council Committee of the Whole met recently to discuss matters relating to an agreement with Illinois State Police.

The intergovernmental agreement would utilize the state police academy for training purposes between Friday, March 18 and Sunday, June 5 of this year.

The item was recommended by Springfield Mayor Jim Langfelder. Should the ordinance pass the agreement will be authorized by the city.

Also within the realm of public safety there was a discussion and a vote to approve a contract with the University of Illinois Board of Trustees concerning fire protection services between July 1 of this year and June 30, 2017.

This meeting also included the review and vote to approve meeting minutes from a previous meeting, alongside discussions for ordinances that are within committee deliberation or that had been previously tabled. Among these items are increasing the number of Class B liquor licenses and amending the code of ordinances to reduce the time a vacant building has to become in line with city code prior to being demolished.
