The Springfield City Council approved a majority of amendments associated with the city’s annual appropriation ordinance during a recent meeting.
A total of 10 amendments were associated with the ordinance. The ordinance authorizes the city budgetary authority between March 1 of this year and Feb. 28 2017.
Amendment items included cost increases for telecommunication for Tim Griffin and Herman Senor, and increased costs for contractural inspector general services alongside a salary increase. The city council also approved the elimination of a grant writing position within the government, opting to contract out for the service.
An amendment that would have eliminated a divisional manager position for tax increment financing projects did not pass. Adjustments in other areas were approved, including a reduction to expenses from the City Water Light & Power electric fund by $6,997,678 and an adjustment to account for a local tourism grant. The ordinance as a whole and amendments were passed with a vote of eight in favor and one opposed.
The city council also voted unanimously to authorize a workers’ compensation claim payment to firefighter Jacob Mueller. This payment totals $23,273.53 to account for partial disability of 15 percent as a result of an injury while on duty.
