The Historic Preservation Commission of Sangamon County, Illinois will be meeting on Wednesday, March 2 to discuss the Oldest Farmhouse project.
This project was launched in November of 2015 and the commission has established a committee focused on locating farmhouses in the county that predate the Civil War. During this meeting the committee members will be presenting a report documenting progress with this project.
An article from The State Journal Register states that the commission has partnered with the Sangamon County Farm Bureau. Both ask those familiar with older structures that fit the scope of this project to bring it the commission's attention. Upon verification by the Historic Preservation Commission valid entries will receive a certificate indicating the longevity of the farmhouse. The oldest structures in each township will receive special recognition.
This meeting is also set to discuss potential locations for new landmark applications and a historical survey to be conducted at the Buffalo Hart Church.
This meeting is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. at the Springfield-Sangamon County Planning Commission Conference Room in the Sangamon County Building.
