Springfield School Board approves budget amendment process

Budget

The Springfield, Illinois Public Schools Board voted to approve an amendment to the FY 2016 budget during its recent meeting.

The amendment is permitted under the Illinois School Code. In this case this amendment would account for updated information regarding expenses and revenue as time has allowed for more accurate information to present itself.

There will be a public hearing regarding the amended budget items on Monday, April 4 at the school district office located at 1900 West Monroe St. The ultimate approval of these amended budgetary items would also take place following the hearing in April. The amended budget will be made available for inspection beginning on Thursday, March 4.

The board states that an amendment is necessary because developments occurred after the initial budget was being drafted and ultimately approved in July of 2015. This measure was approved in a unanimous vote by all members in attendance.

Prior to the start of the regular meeting, the board held an executive session to discuss private matters. This section is not open the public as it could entail matters of staffing, employment, litigation and disciplinary action involving individual students.
