The Chatham Emergency Management Agency (CEMA) recognized Severe Weather Preparedness Week with a special event on Wednesday.
Severe Weather Preparedness Week is scheduled from Feb. 28 until Saturday, March 5.
On Wednesday, CEMA held an event with the local Walgreens in the village. The program aims to help those that live within the Village of Chatham to be prepared and be knowledgeable about the best courses of action when severe weather strikes. This can include thunder and snow storms, tornadoes and flooding instances.
During the event, Midland weather radios that had been purchased were programmed. The Chatham Chamber of Commerce and the village government donated radios that were given as prizes for a drawing that took place.
Those at the event included Chris Miller, representing the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, and chief meteorologist with local news station, WAND TV, J.C. Fultz. Miller took questions from those in attendance at the event and gave information regarding different kinds of severe weather conditions. This location will continue to sell the radios throughout 2016.
The Chatham Fire Department provides these radios for free to any licensed child care facility in the village.
