The Sangamon, Illinois County Election Oversight Committee will be meeting for the first time following the primary elections on April 5.
The meeting is scheduled to begin at 4:30 p.m. at the County Building. It will feature reports from County Clerk, Don Gray, Director of Elections, Stacy Kern, as well as updates from the primary elections.
The committee will also be reviewing meeting minutes from its previous session on March 8.
The Illinois primary elections were held on March 15 and featured Republican races for the county board, state representatives for the 96th and 99th districts, state senator for the 50th district, U.S. representative for the 13th district, U.S. senator and for the president. Democratic races consisted of one for U.S. senator and the president.
The County Clerk’s office reports among Republican presidential candidates, U.S. Sen.Ted Cruz (R-TX) won a majority of the county with 34.81 percent of total votes. On the Democratic side, U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders (D-VT) won a majority of the votes in the county with 52.46 percent of total votes. Candidates for county clerk, coroner and attorney were also determined.
