The City of Springfield, Illinois announced on Tuesday that sewer lining work will be taking place on Monroe Street and 8th Street.
The city notes that this work is expected to be completed over a period of two weeks, assuming that the weather allows work to continue as planned. On Monroe Street, work will be taking place between the intersections at 6th and 9th streets and work on 8th Street will take place between the Monroe and Adams intersections.
While the work is underway, one lane of traffic will be opened and parking on the northern portion of Monroe Street will not be available. The intersection of Monroe and 8th Street will be closed due to the manhole located there.
The city also requests that residents in the area make sure that there is running water in their plumbing systems by running the water or pouring water down the drain so that sewer gasses and odors cannot infiltrate homes and other structures.
The Public Works Department also encourages motorists and pedestrians to use caution while travelling in the area and also recommends that other routes be taken whenever possible.
Residents with questions regarding this work are asked to call the Sewer DIvision Office at 217-789-2244 during business hours and the 24-hour line at 217-789-2246.
