Springfield Public Works announces traffic shift

Roadconstruction

The Springfield, Illinois Office of Public Works announced this week that road work on Laurel Street resulted in a shift in traffic beginning on Wednesday.

The announcement states that westbound traffic between State Street and MacArthur Boulevard will be taking the center portion of the roadway. This work project is expected to last until the end of this week unless inclement weather prevents work from being completed.

Motorists and pedestrians are encouraged to take caution while traveling near the work area and to be aware of work vehicles entering and exiting the work area. At this time the department has not stated that this work project will result in any full street closures. The street closures section of the Springfield website reports that there are no closures in effect.

This project consists of removing sidewalk along the northern portion of the street and replacing it with a new sidewalk.

Residents that have questions regarding this work project may contact the Department of Public Works at 217-789-2255 during business hours, between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. and by email at public.works@springfield.il.us.

The Public Works Department is tasked with all maintenance work for city streets and the public sewer system.
