The Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) has announced that June 13 through 16 will be designated as free fishing days in Illinois for 2025. During this period, anglers are permitted to fish without the need for a fishing license, salmon stamp, or inland trout stamp. The initiative aims to encourage non-anglers to experience the enjoyment of fishing and to introduce children to the activity.

Organizations and groups interested in obtaining fishing equipment and educational materials can fill out an online form provided by IDNR. These resources will be supplied while stocks last.

Typically, Illinois requires individuals over the age of 16 to possess a fishing license unless they are active-duty military personnel or people with disabilities.
