Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) records show that 55.0 percent of Springfield Southeast High School's (SSHS) 2015 graduating class enrolled in college within 12 months of graduation.
The 2015 state average for students in public schools was 70 percent.
For SSHS, its college enrollment rate marks a decline since 2014, when 61.0 percent of its graduates chose post-secondary education.
The data, collected by the National Student Clearinghouse, includes two- and four-year colleges.
Enrollment at SSHS in 2015 was 1,331; 270 (20.29 percent) were seniors.
Also, ISBE said 26.9 percent of SSHS seniors were "college ready" in 2015, vs. an average of 46 percent statewide.
All students who score a 21 on the ACT qualify as "college ready."
SSHS students did better on reading (23.6 percent) and English (43.9 percent) and worse on science (19.3) and math (21.0).
Only 10.5 percent of SSHS students were college ready in all four subjects, ISBE said.
