Republican Herman Senor is gearing up to face Rep. Sue Scherer (D-Decatur) in the November general election in House District 96.

Senor’s campaign website says the alderman in Springfield's Ward 2 grew up in a family of eight children. A college basketball player at Coastal Carolina University, his professional career includes serving in the U.S. Navy and more than a quarter century working with the state Department of Transportation.

Activities that keep him visible in the community include coaching Jefferson Middle School’s ladies basketball team, YMCA board member, Southeast High School women’s assistant basketball coach and Sunday school superintendent for St. John A.M.E. Church.

Scherer was elected to the District 96 seat in 2012, according to Ballotpedia.org.
