"The DOJ led the largest healthcare fraud takedown ever in the Northern District of Illinois," said Mary E. Miller, U.S. Representative from Illinois. "We must relentlessly continue these investigations. Waste, fraud, and abuse cannot continue!"
Recent healthcare fraud investigations in the Northern District of Illinois have led to multiple prosecutions. In June 2024, the DOJ announced that several Chicago-area doctors and business owners were charged with defrauding Medicare and Medicaid of millions. This highlights continued regional efforts against healthcare abuse, as reported by the DOJ.
According to the U.S. Department of Justice, the latest national healthcare fraud takedown in June 2024 resulted in charges against 193 individuals, including 76 medical professionals. These schemes involved approximately $2.75 billion in fraudulent claims, with several cases originating from the Northern District of Illinois.
As reported by the DOJ, from 2019 to 2024, over 1,500 individuals have been prosecuted nationwide for healthcare fraud. This has resulted in more than $13 billion in recoveries, with a notable increase in telemedicine and opioid-related cases during this period.
According to her official House biography, Miller is a Republican representing Illinois’ 15th District since 2021. She serves on the Committees on Agriculture and Education and the Workforce and is known for advocating increased oversight and stricter policies to combat healthcare fraud.
