Springfield Mayor Jim Langfelder said he will seek a second term in 2019 during a live appearance on WMAY radio last week.
Langfelder said the city is in full upswing, with plenty of growth on the horizon. He added that he wants to make sure the city stays on track and is headed in the right direction.
In 2015, Langfelder told the State Journal-Register that running for mayor was about "going back to his roots." He's a native of Springfield, and his father, Ossie Langfelder, served two terms as mayor, from 1987 to 1995.
Prior to public service, Langfelder worked in banking for over a decade. He served as state treasurer until he made a bid for mayor.
Langfelder recently denied giving out more 3 a.m. liquor licenses to businesses and hired Val Yazell, a business development consultant, to be the city's economic development director.
So far, no other candidates have entered the race to challenge him.
