Glenbard Township High School District 87 Communication, Legislation, and Partnerships Committee met March 5.

Present: Bob Friend, Mary Ozog, Amy Goodman, Melissa Piwowar, Bonniejean Alford, Peg Mannion, Nick Scipione and Peggy Agnos
Governor’s Budget Address
Peggy Agnos, executive director of Legislative Education Network of DuPage (LEND), provided information about Gov. Rauner’s fiscal year 19 request, a proposed Teachers Retirement
System pension cost shift to school districts and a property tax freeze.
Community Relations Update
Legislative Advocacy
• Committee will hold semi-annual meetings with legislators
• Consistent schedule to provide information and advocate, as necessary
• Targeting first meeting in spring
Public Schools Week (March 12-16, 2018)
• National campaign for people to post to social media about what they like about their
public schools & advocate for lawmakers to support public education
• Information will be shared via Glenbard News, our social media & communication to staff
• Use #PublicSchoolsWeek and #LovePublicEducation
Superintendent’s Advisory Council
• Will meet on March 13
• Representatives from all 4 schools and the community
• Discussion topics:
o Council members’ ideas re: legislative advocacy
o Comments/ideas regarding recent school safety issues
o Discussion topic of interest from their high school
Illinois Association of School Boards Journal article re: equity
• Article written by Community Relations Coordinator Peg Mannion
• “Closing the AP enrollment gap is changing students’ life trajectories”
• Statewide audience for our message
• Board members and senior administrators across Illinois receive IASB Journal
