Rep. Sara Wojcicki Jimenez (R-Leland Grove) loves basketball.
HR1008 congratulates the Southeast High School boys basketball team on competing in the Class 3A Boys State Basketball Tournament, the first accolade awarded to the team, and the state representative was happy to hand off the resolution.
“We have the team here up in the gallery,” Jimenez pointed out at the May 18 House floor debate. “We are so proud of them.”

Jimenez shared a childhood memory to show just how proud she was.
“One of my favorite cheers when I was growing up was the Southeast Spartans where one side says ‘what side, what side, what side,’ and they said ‘east side, east side, east side,’” Jimenez said.
She said the resolution congratulates them in a special way.
“It is for their first ever appearances in the state tournament,” she said. “They had 29 wins, 4 losses.”
She said the team inspired the community before announcing the group and their coach in the upper chamber.
“Would you please join me in congratulating the boys Southeast Basketball Team,” she said as a round of applause filled the House floor.
