The regular meeting of the Board of Education of the Athens School District, Athens, Illinois was called to order by President Penrod on April 23, 2018 at 6:46 p.m.

Members Present: Epperson, Gordon, Ingram, Mayfield, Penrod, Shiffer, Woodrum

Members Absent: None

Administrators Present: Laird, Rhoades, Reed, Binegar

Visitors Present: A. Trueblood, M. Adkins, R. Rusciolelli

Executive Session

Motion by Mr. Gordon, seconded by Mr. Ingram to enter into executive session for the discussion of matters pertaining to personnel at 6:47 p.m.

Motion by Mrs. Mayfield, seconded by Mr. Ingram to re-enter regular session at 8:11 p.m.

Reception Of Visitors, Petitions, Communciations

There were no comments from visitors, petitions or communications during the regular meeting.

Approval Of Agenda

The agenda was approved as presented.

Consent Agenda

Motion by Mrs. Mayfield, seconded by Mr. Ingram to approve the consent agenda including the March 7, 2018 Special Meeting Minutes, March 26, 2018 Regular Meeting Minutes and Financial Reports.

Approval Of Monthly Bills

Motion by Mrs. Mayfield, seconded by Mr. Ingram to approve the bills payable for April in the amount of $110,219.15.

Personnel Recommendations

Motion by Mrs. Mayfield, seconded by Mr. Ingram to approve the transfer of Ms. Lisa Basso, from her position as health/social studies teacher at Cantrall Intermediate and Athens Junior High Schools, to the position of physical education teacher at Cantrall Elementary school, effective for the 2018-19 school year, the maternity leave of absence for Ms. Nicole Armitage effective from August 20, 2018 through November 12, 2018, accept the resignation of Ms. Judy Brannan, custodian at Cantrall Intermediate School, effective immediately, approve the extra duty employment of Mr. Jeff Hall, as 8th grade girls basketball coach, at Athens Junior High School, and Ms. Maggie Adkins, as 6th grade girls basketball coach, at Cantrall Intermediate School, effective for the 2018-19 school year, and approve the short-term leave of absence for Ms. Regina Rusciolelli from May 11, 2018 through May 24, 2018.

Bond Issuance

Motion by Mrs. Mayfield, seconded by Mr. Ingram to approve the issuance of bonds.

Registration Fees for FY19

Motion by Mrs. Mayfield, seconded by Mr. Ingram to keep the FY19 registration fees at $75.00 for kindergarten through 8th grade and $94.00 for 9th through 12th grades and to increase the athletic participation fees to $60.00 per sport for Athens Junior High School and $70.00 per sport for Athens High School, with a family annual maximum of $210.00.

Approve Bus Purchase

Motion by Mrs. Mayfield, seconded by Mr. Ingram to approve the short-term lease, with the option to buy a 2017 school bus in the amount of $74,062.

Informational Items

County Sales Tax

Mr. Laird provided information regarding the potential Sangamon County Sales Tax question being placed on the ballot for the November 2018 election.

The suspension report was presented for the Board’s review.

Principal’s Reports

Mr. Rhoades, Mrs. Binegar, and Mr. Reed reported on recent and upcoming activities at their schools.

Mr. Penrod adjourned the meeting at 9:09 p.m.
