Chatham CFPD responds to 66 fires in 2017

Chatham Central Fire Protection District responded to 167 calls in 2017 - 42.7 percent more than the previous year, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System.

The calls in Chatham included 66 fires - 22 structure fires, eight vehicle fires and 36 other fires.

In all, the department saw $376,910 in fire loss - or about $5,711 per fire.

The department also received 101 false calls, including one malicious call and 100 other false calls.

The calls resulted in two civilian fire-related injuries. Additionally, two fire service members were injured in fire-related incidents.

The Chatham Central Fire Protection District had an annual budget of $2,318,656 in 2017.

The Chatham FPD Firefighter's Pension Fund, which has 18 active employees and two retired or inactive employees, was $26,371 positive as of May 2016, according to the fund's mandated filings with the Illinois Department of Insurance. That amounts to $676 for every fire in 2016.
