Dawson Volunteer Fire Department responded to 28 calls in 2017 - 64.7 percent more than the previous year, according to data from the National Fire Incident Reporting System.

The calls in Dawson included 24 fires - 14 structure fires, two vehicle fires and eight other fires.

In all, the department saw $25,500 in fire loss - or about $1,063 per fire.

The department also received four false calls.

The Dawson Volunteer Fire Department had an annual budget of $193,532 in 2017.
