City of Springfield issued the following announcement on July 9.
Construction of the City of Springfield, Illinois’ Cook Street Sewer District
Rehabilitation and Replacement Project located on 11th and 12th Street was financed by the Clean
Water State Revolving Fund (SRF). The SRF program is administered by the Illinois Environmental
Protection Agency and receives a portion of its money to fund these types of projects from the U.S.
Environmental Protection Agency. This project includes replacement of severely deteriorated 24 inch
brick combination sewers on 11th Street, from Cook Street to South Grand Avenue, and on 12th Street,
from Stuart Street to Clay Street. Construction for this project begins on July 23, 2018. Once completed,
it will improve water quality for area residents and businesses in Springfield by upgrading a deteriorated
century old sewer to current standards. SRF programs operate in each state to provide communities the
resources necessary to build, maintain, and improve the infrastructure that protects one of our most
valuable resources - water.
