City of Peru Finance and Safety Services Committee met August 15.

The Finance & Safety Services Committee Members Present: Aldermen Potthoff, Ferrari and Radtke present; Alderman Payton absent; Mayor Harl absent.

The Committee reviewed and approved the disbursements for payment on August 22, 2018.
Presentation
Bob Vickrey, Ecocomic Development Director introduced Mr. Douglas Ernstes, Business Development, and Mr. Mike Landgraf, Industrial Development,from OmniTrax. They were at the Municipal Building to meet with Bob Vickrey and wanted to introduce themselves and let the Committee know that Omni Trax is committed to economic development and working to grow our industrial base.

Human Resource Manager Kim Reese provided the following human resources update:

Health Insurance Update
o 6-month review of KBA Insurance
o Running 30% over maximum
o Complete claims review of acute vs. chronic
o Confident the potential stop loss increase is manageable
o Prepare a prescription drug analysis
New Business
ASM Doug Bernabei initiated a discussion/recommendation to authorize order and purchase of new police patrol vehicle under Illinois State Bid Programs with either sale or trade-in of vehicle being replaced. Committee asked for formal approval at next regular council meeting.
Committee discuss/approved $250 contribution to Horizon House Road to Independence campaign. Committee asked for formal approval at the next regular council meeting.
ASM Bernabei initiated a discussion regarding filling the retirement in the electric department with an existing part-time employee as an administrative assistant to cover both the Electric Department and Public Works. ASM Bernabei suggested replacing the current part-time receptionist position. The Committee concurred.
Alderman Potthoff initiated a discussion of acquisition of a Peru Street apartment building.
Alderman Radtke asked to put together a plan for selling off excess city property with specific terms and RFP’s.
City Engineer Eric Carls reported on a DCEO feedback regarding water rates and minimums.
