BALL CHATHAM COMMUNITY UNIT SCHOOL DISTRICT 5: The Glenwood High School Speech Team Split Their Talents Between Two Speech Tournaments

Ball Chatham Community Unit School District 5 issued the following announcement on Dec 2.

The Glenwood High School Speech Team split their talents between two speech tournaments over weekend and came out winners on both ends.

The team hosted the Glenwood SISSAL Speech Tournament on Saturday and came away with 4th place in the large school division.

Tournament Champions include: Xander Try, Nate Weiman and Maggie Toepfer. Award winning finalists include: Lucas Carter, Olivia Stabler, Audrey Brinkmeyer, Xander Try, Isabel Schable, Maggie Toepfer, Aly Poani, Lucas Altman, Alyssa Mueller, Xander Try, Isaac Dahl, Nate Wieman, Anna Broadbooks, Joceyln Bradshaw, Nate Turner, Ainslie Wilson, Isa Phillips, Josh Eiter, Vivian Gray, Katelynn Callahan, Kristen O’Donnell, and Abigail Lebar.

The team also sent two seniors to the Geo Armstrong Speech Invitational at Bradley University. Seniors Noah Fons and Athena Try were both award-winning finalists in multiple categories. Try was also a Tournament Champion and awarded 3rd place in the Janssen Scholarship Competition, which includes a scholarship to Bradley University and a spot on the nationally acclaimed Bradley Speech Team, if she chooses to attend.

The team’s season is off to a successful start with the following successes:

* 5th place Richwoods Camelot Tournament

* 5th place Benton Sisal Speech Invitational

* 2nd place Dave Bishop Commemorative Speech

* Tournament in Canton

* 3rd Limestone Speech Tournament

At this point in the season, Glenwood has three senior members who are ranked in the top 20 competitors in the NSDA Greater Illinois District. Athena Try is 3rd, Noah Fons is 12th and Alyssa Mueller is 20th.

Speech team members will head to the Hilltopper Classic at Western Kentucky University next weekend. The team is coached by Ken Carter.
