Scores3

About 34 percent of Mount Pulaski Elementary School students passed annual English language arts assessments in 2018 and 66 percent of students failed, according to a Sangamon Sun analysis of the latest Illinois schools report card.

The Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers, or PARCC, is administered to third- through eighth-graders in Illinois, testing them in reading and math based on Common Core standards.

According to Mount Pulaski Elementary School English language scores, about 31 percent met expectations and 3 percent exceeded them. Students whose results are in either category are considered to be most ready to move on to the next level and are most prepared for college or work.

Another 36 percent approached expectations, while 20 percent partially met expectations and 10 percent did not meet them. Students who scored in these categories are not ready for the next level of schooling, according to the test.

Test results at Mount Pulaski Elementary School, which enrolled 356 students in 2018, fell below state averages.

Statewide, 37 percent of students passed the test and 63 percent failed.

Of students statewide who passed, only six percent 'exceeded' expectations.
