BALL-CHATHAM CUSD 5 SCHOOL DISTRICT: Grant Funded by the Ball-Chatham Educational Foundation

Grant

Ball-Chatham CUSD 5 School District issued the following announcement on Dec. 18.

Thanks to a grant funded by the Ball-Chatham Educational Foundation, the GHS AP, Dual Credit, and 4th year German students - along with their teacher, Mrs. Janelle Voss - recently took learning to a whole new level in Chicago! The group visited the Christkindlmarkt, which is a huge market in Daley Plaza that represents the German tradition of Christmas markets. Then they attended a class at the Goethe Institute in Chicago, an international language school. The students were given an assignment and had to interpret German posters and discuss what they read. After that, they dined at the Berghoff Restaurant, a famous Chicago German restaurant founded by a German immigrant in 1898. Even though it was a long day, it provided lifelong memories for these GHS students!

And one more thing.GHS German teacher, Mrs. Janelle Voss, recently received recognition from the US Department of State for her work, which resulted in starting a German American Partnership Program (GAPP) at the high school. GAPP is an exchange program recognized by the US and German governments to promote friendship and good relations between the two countries. Congratulations Mrs. Voss!!
