State Rep. Mike Murphy (R-Springfield) says he is honored at being named 2019 Legislator of the Year by the Illinois Association of Fire Protection Districts (IAFPD).
Murphy, in his first term in the legislature, received the award during the IAFPD’s annual conference.
“I want to thank IAFPD for this recognition,” Murphy posted June 29 on Facebook. “It has been my honor to advocate for critical fire service initiatives and I look forward to lending my voice in support of our fire services and first responders in the future as well.”
A release on Murphy’s website mentioned three bills Murphy backed that helped firefighters. One bill eased restrictions on hiring apprentice firefighters, another supported rural districts’ contract bidding, and SB 1894 created a special license plate to honor firefighters who had lost their lives in the line of duty.
