Three referendum questions are on the ballot in Sangamon County.
Sangamon County has three referendum questions on the primary ballot in New Berlin, Williamsville and Gardner Township which will have long-term effects on the county if passed.
According to State Journal Register, New Berlin is deciding whether or not to vote for a bond measure for construction of a high school building which would lead to tax increments. Ehrman, a New Berlin district official wrote a letter to the board about the bond.
“We need to dramatically enhance our educational environment to provide our teachers with the necessary tools to help our students have the best possible chance to succeed academically,” Erhrman wrote, as reported by the State Journal Register.
Williamsville wants the same amount of bond measure approved but without the increases in taxes. Superintendent Tip Reedy indicated that it was an opportunity for improved school facilities for the next 50 to 75 years.
The district of Gardner Township is voting on a different ballot question on whether or not alcohol should be sold at retail in the county.
Terry Farmer who is a staunch supporter of the proposal spoke on the situation.
“It’s not about drinking," Farmer told the State Journal Register. "It’s not about having a bar...I think it’s more about convenience and access, and I think that would help the area grow economically too.”
Each and every one of these decisions for the primary ballot of the Sangamon County districts shows how big of an impact they can have on the future economy of the county.
