Athens Community Unit School District 213 issued the following announcement on June 3.
We are deeply saddened to share that, last Monday, we lost one of our high school
students, Brendon Meyers, to a car accident. In January, Brendon, previously at
Chatham, joined the Athens High School community. Although he had only been with us
a short time, he made a positive impact on our students and staff. He was a truly caring
and generous person. We were looking forward to Brendon joining our football and track
teams. We extend our deepest sympathy, thoughts, and prayers to Brendon’s family and
loved ones.
Dealing with the loss of a family member or friend can be a very difficult and emotional
time. Although Brendon was a high school student, he also has three younger siblings in
our elementary schools. Therefore, we want to extend our support to any age affected by
this tragedy. If you feel that your child is struggling with this loss, please contact your
child’s school office, as we have counseling services available by appointment.
