Ball-Chatham Community Unit School District 5 issued the following announcement on Jan. 22.
The Ball-Chatham School District is excited to pilot a free, 12-week STEM enrichment program for our third and fourth grade students at BES, CES, and GES.
FIRST LEGO League (FLL) Explore focuses on the fundamentals of engineering as students explore real-world problems, learn to design and code and create unique solutions made with LEGO bricks and powered by LEGO Education WeDo 2.0.
The program will be held from 10:45 a.m. to 12:15 p.m., once a week (CES on Tuesdays, GES on Wednesdays, and BES on Thursdays) beginning February 9 at designated locations within each school. Enrollment is limited to only 24 students per school (chosen through a random draw). Please note that preference will be given to 4th grade students.
What are the expectations for program participation?
- Parents will need to provide transportation to/from school for each session.
- Students are expected to maintain appropriate classroom behavior during the sessions.
- Students will only be allowed to miss two sessions. These need to be approved in advance.
What Covid-19 Precautions will be implemented to keep the students safe?
- Facilitators will work with the BCSD5 nursing staff to ensure all District Covid-19 Guidelines are followed.
