Q3 2020 Recap: 2 parolees from Sangamon County convicted of crimes against children set for release

There were two offenders convicted of crimes against children released on parole in Sangamon County during the third quarter of 2020, according to Illinois Department of Corrections data obtained by the Sangamon Sun.

The data shows that a man and a woman were among the parolees. The median age of the parolees sentenced for crimes against children was 33. The younger parolee was a 26-year-old man sentenced in 2018, and the oldest was a 40-year-old woman sentenced in 2017.

The offender who had been incarcerated the longest was Mark D. Thompson. He was convicted in 2018 when he was 23 years old. He is now 26.

Under state law, paroled offenders are still in legal custody of the IDOC, meaning they can be taken back to a correctional center at any time if the state has probable cause or a warrant.
