State Rep. Blaine Wilhour (R-Beecher City) said voters in the 54th Senate District would be putting conservative principles first by supporting CPA Don Debolt.

Wilhour said Debolt is committed to creating a better 54th District.

“Don Debolt is a true conservative who will not abandon Republican principles to appease the whims of the political insiders, influence peddlers and establishment, career politicians who are presiding over our state’s decline,” Wilhour said. “Don Debolt will prioritize jobs, lower taxes, spending reforms and parental rights. He will not keep propping up a failed system that protects insiders at the expense of us all. He will fight for the working-class families in the 54th District. He is the right choice for voters in the 54th District.”

Debolt, who has been campaigning with Wilhour and other Republicans, said he is honored to have the endorsement of Wilhour.

“Blaine has been at the forefront in fighting for our conservative principles,” Debolt said. “He is a leader who is making a difference in Springfield. I look forward to working with Rep. Wilhour and other conservative leaders in Springfield to root out the culture of corruption in Springfield and fight for working families and taxpayers."

According to his campaign web site, Debolt is a proud conservative Republican who is running for State Senate because he is concerned with the future of Southern Illinoisans. The website also said that apart from caring for his family, his life has always been centered around faith, and he is passionate to make a positive impact in the community.

Debolt promises to repeal the gas tax and help alleviate Illinoisans' suffering. Debolt is a small business owner from Stewardson who has been a certified public accountant for over 45 years, according to his campaign bio

"I whole heartedly support this, and officially state that I will also work to repeal the gas tax that my opponent voted for," he said. "Illinoisans are hurting. I feel the same pressure at the pump. My sons see the fuel cost in their businesses as well. We’re all in this together."

He and his wife Linda live in Stewardson; they have two sons and five grandchildren.

Debolt is facing State Sen. Steve McClure (R-Springfield) in the June 28 primary.

The 54th District includes Christian, Cumberland, Effingham, Macon, Macoupin, Menard, Montgomery, Sangamon, and Shelby counties.
