State Sen. Steve McClure, in a post on social media, shared his new leadership role in the Republican Caucus in Springfield.
McClure, a Springfield Republican, represents the 54th District as a result of redistricting. In a news release on his website, the legislator shared the news of his party leadership role.
“It is a tremendous responsibility to be tasked with presenting the Republican perspective during debates in the chamber and an honor to be asked to serve in this important position by my colleagues,” McClure said in the news release.
McClure will serve as an assistant Republican Leader to Senate Minority Leader John Curran, R-Downers Grove, who lauded his colleague for his work.
“Senator McClure is a bright and promising rising star in the Illinois Senate,” Curran said in the news release. “I have full confidence in his ability to serve as the voice of our caucus on important issues that we will take up in the Senate.”
According to a biography on his website, McClure, an Illinois native, was elected to represent the 50th Senate district in 2019. A graduate of Arizona State University, he holds bachelor’s degrees in history and political science and later earned his master’s degree from the University of Illinois in Springfield and his law degree from Valparaiso University School of Law in Indiana.
