Q3 2022 Recap: 4 parolees from Sangamon County convicted of sex crimes set for release

There were four offenders convicted of sex crimes living in Sangamon County released on parole during the third quarter of 2022, according to Illinois Department of Corrections data obtained by the Sangamon Sun.

The data shows all of the released offenders among the parolees were men. Of the parolees sentenced for sex crimes, one was a veteran, and the median age was 46. The youngest parolee was a 35-year-old man sentenced in 2022, and the oldest was a 75-year-old man sentenced in 2019.

The offender who had been incarcerated the longest was Craig Colantino. He was convicted in 2019 when he was 42 years old. He is now 46.

Under state law, paroled offenders are still in legal custody of the IDOC, meaning they can be taken back to a correctional center at any time if the state has probable cause or a warrant.
