Sangamon Sun

There were three offenders convicted of sex crimes living in Sangamon County released on parole during the fourth quarter of 2022, according to Illinois Department of Corrections data obtained by the Sangamon Sun.

The data shows all of the released offenders among the parolees were men. Of the parolees sentenced for sex crimes, one was a veteran, and the median age was 44. The youngest parolee was a 23-year-old man sentenced in 2021, and the oldest was a 81-year-old man sentenced in 2018.

The offender who had been incarcerated the longest was Kethan Garlick. He was convicted in 2008 when he was 29 years old. He is now 44.

Under state law, paroled offenders are still in legal custody of the IDOC, meaning they can be taken back to a correctional center at any time if the state has probable cause or a warrant.
