State Rep. Jed Davis (R-Newark) is getting focused on the message voters are hearing.
In week 4 of his “Springfield in 90 Seconds” short series, Davis discussed political messaging.
“Welcome to Springfield in 90 seconds, week four. Hi, I'm Jed Davis here, state rep. and this week we're talking messaging,” Davis said on a Facebook video. “Think of your cell phone. All the emails and phone calls and texts and the alerts, news and weather and all the social media. In addition, it is simply overwhelming. So how do we break through the clutter to win the hearts of people with our messaging? Man, it's a great question. We, myself included, we as Republicans can do so much better on two really simple fronts.”
Davis recommended not to "sidestep the tough issues, issues like abortions and book bans."
"And I have been at enough doors to know we're on the winning side of these conversations," he said. "So let's have them honestly and openly with people.”
Davis also suggested providing a solution for every complaint.
"The budget is a great example," he said. "We can list all the complaints, but not let's show a budget under Republican leadership. Man, let's show the solution because people will love it and they'll want it versus what we currently have. We can do this together. Let's have the tough conversations and let's provide the solutions because they're amazing and we will win. And who doesn't want to win?”
Davis’s web series “Springfield in 90 Seconds” has become a popular view for his constituents.
Constituent Scott Greene called Davis, “a true representative of the people” in response to one of Davis’s shorts.
Davis is a member of the Illinois Freedom Caucus which is also comprised of GOP State Reps. Brad Halbrook, Blaine Wilhour, Adam Niemerg, Dan Caulkins, Chris Miller and David Friess. It is part of the broader State Freedom Caucus Network.
“We need patriots who will serve in our state capitals to fight federal overreach and stand firm against those — in both parties — who prioritize seizing political power over representing constituents,” the group’s website reads.
